SW Students Serve the Community

The December 2011 edition of the End Slavery TN newsletter contained the following article in which two of our students receive recognition!

Launching at the Library
by Chelsea Weber

On November 2, 2011, two freshman interns from Lipscomb University delivered the first of 15 sets of educational materials about human trafficking to a library in Nashville.

Under the able oversight of Susan Eames, Allison Krivanek and Kelly King researched and put together packages with books such as Girls Like Us by Rachel Lloyd, Somebody's Daughter by Julian Sher, and Escaping the Devil's Bedroom by Dawn H. Jewell. Also included were Donald Sutherland's DVD entitled Human Trafficking and information on the work of End Slavery Tennessee.

Generous grantors provided funds to acquire these materials for placement with Nashville area public, church and school libraries.

Thanks to Karen Karpinski's recent connections at Lipscomb University, End Slavery Tennessee is now on the list of community service opportunities for students at the university, like Allison and Kelly. This will undoubtedly open the doors for more students to join in future projects. Please pray for the work of End Slavery Tennessee, as we seek creative ways to educate and involve communities members.

Hidden In Plain Sight:
Human Trafficking In Our Community

October 17

Defined as the illegal trade of human beings, human trafficking is second only to drug trafficking in money-making potential. World wide it is a multi-billion dollar industry and takes place in virtually every country on earth ... even the United States of America ... even in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Lipscomb Department of Social Work and End Slavery in Tennessee/International Teams will sponsor a seminar on this issue facilitated by Ms. Karen Karpinski. Ms. Karpinski has over thirty years of volunteer experience and has been actively involved with End Slavery in Tennessee/International Teams for two years.

"Every two minutes a child is trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation in the United States."
