Does the service work performed by freshman during QUEST week count as a Tier I SALT credit?

Yes, students who participated in the service experience during QUEST week did receive SALT Tier II credit. The Registrar's office has already recorded the Tier II credit for these students, and the record should be available on the students' DAR. The students who received credit should receive an email informing them that their record has been updated.

Are students required to fill out a form in order to receive credit for any SALT experience they participate in?

No forms are required to receive credit for any SALT experiences. All SALT Experiences, curricular or co-curricular, are recorded as courses through Banner/DAR. This includes SALT service during QUEST week and SALT mission trips. Each SALT experience has its own record keeping method (i.e. sign in sheets for SALT during QUEST week, a letter grade for SALT courses). The SALT program keeps track of this information through the Registrar's office to make sure the records are recorded in the students' DAR.

Are there specific guidelines for students who wish to take part in an independent study-type SALT experience which is not "sponsored" by Lipscomb?

Students are encouraged to participate in Lipscomb "sponsored" SALT experiences. The benefit of participating in these experiences is that they are already established, and most of the leg work is already done in designing and planning for the experience.

If students have a particular service project or long standing commitment with a nonprofit agency, they are welcome to contact the SALT Center regarding an independent study-type SALT experience for SALT credit. However, students are encouraged to participate in university planned experiences whenever possible.

The following are types of SALT experiences:

Tier I: SALT service day
Tier II: SALT course
Tier III: SALT internship, cooperative (independent study), mission trip
Tier IV: SALT capstone (program approval required - SALT Scholars only)

Where can students find a comprehensive list of suggested activities/opportunities for Tiers II-IV?
