About Lipscomb
Lipscomb University relies upon multiple emerency mass communication systems during a major emergency to get critical information out to the maximum number of people in the quickest possible time. Using multiple methods of emergency notification is necessary since there has been no single method that has been proven to be 100% effective, 100% of the time. All of the methods of mass communications available to the university make up the Lipscomb Emergency Alert System. By utilizing multiple methods, we can ensure that as many people as possible get vital emerency information, whether they are outdoors, indoors in a class, or in their dorm/office.
LIpscomb University utilizes the following methods for mass communication:
Outdoor Warning Siren/Public Address
Lipscomb University purchased and installed a Federal Signal Voice Modulator UV4 siren that is capable of voice and/or tone announcements. Lipscomb Security & Safety has the ability to activate the public address feature of this siren and make an announcement. This is an IP or digital radio system that allows real time messages and actual emergency instructions can be provided over the public address feature.
InformaCast – Voice over IP Phone Alert
InformaCast is a system that allows administrators to simultaneously send an audio stream and/or text message to multiple Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phones. Lipscomb University has approximately 1,500 of these phones on its campuses (including dorms and classrooms)
LU Alert - Text/email messaging system
LU Alert is designed to provide rapid notification via text messages and email to alert students, faculty and staff (who have enrolled at LU) of an emergency at or adjacent to the University. LU Alert is a simple and reliable means to quickly send messages to many people with text-message and/or email capable cellular phones (or other digital devices). LU works on any text-message/email capable cell phone and does not require any hardware or software installation by the receiving party.
