Spanish

Studying another language has wonderful benefits for children; experts believe it increases test scores in areas like English and Math, and may enhance creativity and critical thinking skills. Students who have had an introduction to Spanish at an early age will have a major advantage in mastering it later in life. Knowing the language can open ministry opportunities to Spanish speakers in the US and abroad, and eventually make students more marketable in the workplace.

Mrs. Rosch visits the pre-K students weekly for a 30-minute Spanish lesson. At this age they learn colors, numbers 0-10, animals, body parts, songs and simple commands.

Kindergarteners go to the Spanish classroom for 45 minutes weekly to work on colors, numbers 0-10, animals, body parts, greetings and expressing feelings, and cultural and religious songs and games.

Pre-1st through 4th grade students go to Spanish twice a week, once for 30 minutes and once for 15 minutes. Pre-1st and 1st graders learn colors, numbers 0-20, expressing emotions, simple math problems, foods, days of the week, months of the year, weather, following simple and complex commands in Spanish, and cultural and religious songs and games. 2nd and 3rd grades review colors and learn numbers 0-35, expressing emotion, ordering in a restaurant and storytelling using Bible stories. 4th grade reviews greetings, numbers 0-35, expressing emotions and asking for food. They learn to read, write, tell and understand brief stories in Spanish, including a Biblical parable, and make a book from one of their original stories.
