A Conventional Foundation that Supports Innovative Learning
The College of Professional Studies offers the credentials of a traditional degree program, balanced with nontraditional delivery. It’s a proactive initiative to meet the workforce needs of today and tomorrow.
Through the College of Professional Studies, Lipscomb University develops new certificate and degree programs for adult students who seek to advance their careers in growing industries and emerging fields. Often, these programs are created in partnership with businesses and professional associations. These are career-oriented programs that use the expertise of our current academic programs, along with insights from businesses and industries outside Lipscomb, to meet critical workplace needs now and in the future. Each program hosts an active, ongoing advisor council that develops curricula and places students in jobs. Lipscomb faculty provide leadership and industry specialists serve as adjunct faculty, making the College a true collaboration between Lipscomb and the community.
We use a rich mix of online, virtual, and mobile technologies to both increase convenience and enhance learning. Often, face-to-face sessions are taught in the evenings and on weekends – both on campus and off site – to accommodate professional students. Competency-based learning provides an opportunity for life and professional experience to be evaluated for credit, curricula to be tailored to the student, and teaching styles to be personalized to the individual.
Above all, the College of Professional Studies is flexible. We are continually asking, “What is college?” – and we are constantly rethinking the answer.
