The philosophy program is housed in the Department of History, Politics & Philosophy, located in the College of Arts & Sciences. Students have the opportunity to study with faculty who have distinguished themselves through research and publication, excellence in teaching and government service. Because it emphasizes logical reasoning, problem-solving, and clear writing, the philosophy major is an excellent preparation for a variety of professions. Many philosophy majors have gone on to successful careers in law, journalism, government, ministry, and business. Nationwide, philosophy majors perform exceptionally well on the LSAT, the GMAT and the GRE.
At Lipscomb, the philosophy major is streamlined so that students can easily add philosophy as a second major. In addition to the philosophy major, Lipscomb offers a philosophy minor, a minor in ethics, and a minor in applied ethics.
