Vision, Mission, and Values
Vision
The Department of Pharmacy Practice will promote excellence in the practice of pharmacy both administratively and clinically in the provision of pharmaceutical care and services. Department faculty will be recognized nationally and locally for their efforts to contribute to patient health and well being by identifying and resolving drug and health-related problems, educating student pharmacists as life-long learners, and providing pharmaceutical care services to the community at large. All of this will be accomplished with attitudes of compassion and humility as fellow sufferers and servants of mankind.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Pharmacy Practice is to mentor student pharmacists into life-long learners who are academically astute and prepared to lead the profession in the provision of pharmaceutical care with compassion and ethics.
The Department will achieve its mission by:
· Developing an advanced curriculum that is innovative, challenging, and relevant to current practice needs
· Using varied educational techniques and assessments that ensure student comprehension and the application of critical thinking skills
· Involving student pharmacists in the application of learned principles and concepts to actual patient care and the attainment of optimal medication outcomes
· Modeling professional attitudes and mores that engender qualities of compassion, empathy, humility, and service.
· Motivating student pharmacists to take ownership of medication therapy outcomes and constantly improve their understanding and application of clinical knowledge and skills to better serve future patient needs.
Values
The core values of the Department of Pharmacy Practice are consistent with those of the Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy:
· Christlikeness – The constant aim is for each member of the Department to grow in His image. Spiritual growth is a cornerstone for individual and professional growth; therefore, our culture will be based on Christian values.
· Truth – Truth is sought in each class and should be lived out in academic endeavors, practice, behavior, and speech of each member of the faculty, staff, and student pharmacist.
· Excellence – In every facet of our efforts, we are committed to excellence in performance and service.
· Respect – Respect for individuals must be demonstrated for patients, student pharmacists, employers, colleagues, and the profession of pharmacy.
· Service – Knowledge and acquired skills gained are to be utilized in service to enhance the lives of others.
· Professionalism – A collective demonstration of the Department’s and profession’s values as represented in our daily activities.
