December 3rd marked Lipscomb’s 2nd annual Thanksmas celebration. This event gave us the opportunity to welcome the class of 2014, and allowed faculty, staff and students the chance to celebrate the holidays together. There were approximately 225 people in attendance including our special guest Santa Claus who posed for pictures with children and adults alike.
True to tradition each person who attended brought an item of food such as a vegetable, side dish, or dessert, and CVS provided the turkey. Everyone who attended can attest that the spread of food was amazing as well as delicious. This year we added a sweets table filled with pounds and pounds of twelve different kinds of holiday candy. The leftover candy kept Dr. Fowler happy and all of the students alert during finals.
As the event coordinator I think the most special part of Thanksmas was the preparation beforehand. When I asked for volunteers to help with set up and decorations I had more than one third of the entire College of Pharmacy sign up to help as well as many faculty and staff members. To me, the willingness to help one another and the community is what sets our College of Pharmacy apart from other pharmacy programs. It was wonderful to see each class work side by side to make this event a success.
We would like to thank CVS’s Pharmacy Supervisor, Eric Durham, and CVS’s Regional Intern Program Manager, Nikki Watters, for their attendance and support of this event. Lipscomb’s student pharmacists are blessed with the opportunity to learn from CVS’s top pharmacists during our IPPE rotations and are given the chance to join the CVS internship program. Their annual support of this event continues to strengthen our ties and build interest for future opportunities.
