Equipping Students for Success
By Brian Mast on 11/2/2012
The newly created Academic Success Center (ASC) allows students to take advantage of individual tutoring, collaborative study groups, athletic study hall, academic workshops, student advocacy consultation and academic coaching. The ASC houses the university math lab and the Lipscomb University Writing Studio.
Within the ASC, students are able to take advantage of various means of technology. The center is equipped with laptops computers, desktop computers, iPads, and mounted LED monitors as well as specialized computer software that is designed to assist students with disabilities and English language learners. The ASC facilitates themed academic workshops which are built around components shown to increase academic success.
The ASC is designed to serve the entire student population in the area of academic support and enrichment and assist students in reaching their highest academic potential. Personalized attention is given to each student and unique learning styles are considered when planning academic programming. A major focus of the ASC is to be available to accommodate the needs and academic support services that are requested by the students and faculty and to support the mission of Lipscomb University by enhancing student roles as critical thinkers, ethical decision makers and ultimately, contributing members of society.
The Academic Success Center (ASC) opened for student use on August 20, 2012 and resides in room 141 of the Beaman Library. It is directed by Brian Mast, Sr. Director for Student Success.
