How many intern positions are available?

Lipscomb’s Dietetic Internship is approved for 12 interns to be matched to the program each year.

What are the admission requirements?

Admission to the Lipscomb University Dietetic Internship Program is separate from admission to the University.  Applying to the graduate school is not necessary as part of the application process for the dietetic internship until after the matching process has selected Lipscomb's 12 interns for the upcoming program year.  Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for admission to the internship program:

  • Minimum DPD GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Verification Statement from an approved undergraduate or certificate program in dietetics
  • Excellent reference/ recommendation  with one from DPD Director
  • Applicable Nutrition courses and GRE must have been completed within the past 5 years
  • GRE cumulative scores equal to or greater than 800 (taken prior to Aug.1,2011) or 285 (taken after Aug. 1,2011).

How are interns selected for the program?

A selection committee evaluates internship applications on a competitive basis and determines the individuals to be interviewed.  Nutrition related work experience is optimal, but all applications are evaluated based on individual DPD GPA, GRE scores, personal statement, references, and work and volunteer experiences. Interviews with an interview committee comprised of current program preceptors generally take place within the first two weeks of March and may be in person or by phone.  Exceptions to the academic criteria may be made in compelling cases.  Students are ultimately selected for the program through the computer matching process.  Students applying to the program must contact D & D Digital Systems (https://www.dnddigital.com/ada/) to obtain materials regarding the matching process.  Interns are asked to rank the institutions to which they apply in order of preference, while the DI ranks her preferred choices.  D&D Digital matches students to programs based on both of these rankings.
