Heather Knox Barber Nursing Scholarship
The Heather Knox Barber Nursing Scholarship is established in memory of Heather Knox Barber, a graduate of the Harding University School of Nursing, who utilized her professional skills and demonstrated her Christ-like concern for others by participating in medical missions to Nigeria and Guyana. Prior to her untimely death in 1999 at age 27 following an automobile accident, Heather Barber was a pediatric nurse at the Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and a pediatric home health care nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL.
The Heather Knox Barber Nursing Scholarship is awarded every other year. To qualify for financial aid from the Heather Knox Barber Nursing Scholarship, applicants must be enrolled full-time in good standing in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Lipscomb University, and be scheduled to enter the junior year of studies. Applicants must be committed to participate in a Health Talents medical mission during each year they receive the Heather Nursing Scholarship. As a general guideline, preference is given to those applicants who, having met the academic requirements above, and following assessment of financial need by the University's Financial Aid Office, must incur loans equal to one-half or more of the cost of attendance to continue to attend the University. Applications can be obtained in the Financial Aid Office of Lipscomb University.
