Lipscomb offers a musical Christmas with jazz, orchestral and choral performances

Christmas 2012 brings plenty of unique, free opportunities to hear Christmas-themed classical, choral and jazz music on campus. Concerts feature favorites such as "White Christmas" and "Ave Maria."

Lipscomb University’s Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Steve Rhodes, performs classical music favorites.

University Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Thursday, Nov. 29
Shamblin Theatre, 6:30 p.m.

Lipscomb's Jazz Band, directed by Steve Rhodes, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Gary P. Wilson, will present a concert of jazz standards and favorites. Among the vocal numbers performed at this concert are “You Make Me Feel So Young,” by Mack Gordon and Josef Myron, “Body and Soul,” by Heyman, Sour, Eyton and Green, “Snow” from “White Christmas,” by Irving Berlin, “I'm Old Fashioned,” by Johnny Mercer and Jerome Kern, and “Bring Me Sunshine” by Sylvia Dee and Arthur Kent. .

A Celebration of Christmas
A Cappella Singers, University Singers & University Wind Ensemble

Monday, Dec. 3
Collins Alumni Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by Steve Rhodes, and the choral ensembles, conducted by Gary P. Wilson and Jean Miller, present a program of holiday favorites and music for the season. The University Singers will perform “White Christmas,” by Irving Berlin and “Ave Maria,” by Jacques Arcadelt. The A Cappella Singers will perform “Mary's Little Boy Child,” by Jester Hairston, “Glory Hallelujah to the Newborn King,” arranged by Mark Butler and other classical works. Other works included in the concert are “Noel,” an African spiritual arranged by Brad Holmes and “A Festive Christmas,” arranged by Kenny Bierschenk and Gary P. Wilson.
