The Department of Communication and Journalism presents the MediaMasters Lecture Series featuring The Tennessean Executive Editor and Vice President/News Maria De Varenne on Monday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Ezell Center, room 301.

About Maria De Varenne
De Varenne is the former editor and vice president of news at The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif. She joined The Press-Enterprise in 1999 and rose to become projects editor, managing editor and finally executive editor and editor and vice president of news in 2002. Previously she was the assistant managing editor at the San Bernardino County Sun, a general assignment reporter in Daytona Beach, Fla., and a business reporter, a business editor and a special projects editor for papers in Texas and Pennsylvania.
Under her leadership, The Press-Enterprise and PE.com have won numerous regional, state and national news awards. Last fall, The Press-Enterprise was named one of the top 25 U.S. daily newspapers to gain audiences in both print readership and online readership. The Press-Enterprise was awarded first place general excellence for newspapers of circulations between 75,001 and 200,000 in the state by the California Newspaper Publisher Association's Better Newspaper Contest.
