OPEN Gallery presents “Secret Gardens” by Victoria Martinez
Saturday, November 2
6 - 9 p.m.
Fifth Avenue Art Crawl
The OPEN Gallery of Lipscomb University announces its November exhibition, “Secret Gardens,” by Victoria Martinez of Chicago. Martinez is an interdisciplinary artist who has shown throughout the United States as well as internationally. She works in various media to create collages that interact with a specific location.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Martinez composes mixed media ephemeral collages designed to establish urban environmental interventions within abandoned spaces. These urban interventions ultimately culminate with performances that are directly related to the art works. Martinez collects and incorporates into her artworks samples of items such as discarded encyclopedias, fabric/textiles, kitschy articles, as well as “found” entities indicative of urban environments, such as boxes of fabric, string and photographs of flowers.
The OPEN Gallery, wholly operated and curated by the students of the Lipscomb University Department of Art, is now in its second year of operation. New exhibits debut each month at the Fifth Avenue Art Crawl, on the first Saturday of each month or by appointment by calling 561.420.9315.
