The Sara Walker Run: Live for Today 5K
Lipscomb University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will host a 5K run to benefit the Sara Walker Foundation on Sunday, Oct. 6, 6:30-8:30 a.m., beginning and ending at Allen Arena.
Walker was an alumna of Lipscomb who passed away due to cancer in 2012. Her family, friends and readers of her popular blog, “Savoring the Day,” have come together to establish the Sara Walker Foundation. The foundation exists to continue Walker’s ministry of encouragement and outreach through a new version of her “Savoring the Day” website and missions work at Blessings Hospital for women and to aid children in Malawi, Africa.
In June of 2013, the first group of Lipscomb University nursing students traveled to Blessings Hospital to provide health care for Malawi residents. The Sara Walker Foundation helped fund this trip through four nursing scholarships.
The Sara Walker Run will take place on the Lipscomb campus. A worship service will be held in Bison Square for the participants after the run.
Cost to participate is $30 for adults, $10 for children. Registration forms can be found at thesarawalkerrun.weebly.com.

Walker was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in an unrelated medical test just four weeks after the sudden, full-term still birth of her daughter Anna in December 2010. Her struggle with cancer ended in August of 2012. Through her candid blogs, Sara inspired over 700,000 website visitors and countless others during this time.
