This international smash-hit may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter. His world-view shattered, Javert commits suicide and Valjean at last attains the peace he has sought for so long.
Epic, grand and uplifting, "Les Misérables" packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world. A spectacle on Broadway and in London, Les Misérables is a powerful affirmation of the human spirit that has become a popular masterpiece.
Nashville’s very own Chuck Wagner, who has starred in many Broadway shows including playing the Beast in Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast," will grace the Collins Alumni Auditorium stage to play Jean Valjean (except for the Wednesday, Nov. 6 performance).

Les Miz Faith Night: The Department of Theatre and Office of Church Services have designated the Nov. 6 performance as a special performance for church groups and a fundraising night for Youth Encouragement Services (YES). One dollar of every ticket purchased for the Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m. performance, will be donated to YES, an after-school enrichment program for inner-city youth that has a longstanding relationship with both Lipscomb and local congregations.
In addition, church-going individuals and groups can purchase tickets for that performance at a discounted price: $5 for students and church ministers and their family, and $10 for the general church population.
Attendees at the Nov. 6 special performance will enjoy a pre-show “making of” video of the “Les Misérables” production, a post-show talk-back with the cast and crew and discussion questions to use with youth or small group discussions.
“Les Misérables,” based on the novel by Victor Hugo, is an inspiring story of grace triumphing over judgment. Jean Valjean is ready to give up on humanity as he breaks parole and begins a life as a fugitive. But a timely gift of silver candlesticks from a gentle priest changes his life and the lives of all those Valjean comes in contact with for decades afterwards.
Discounted tickets can be purchased at the Lipscomb box office by calling 615-966-7077 and asking for the church or youth group ticket package.
Sampler Package: The Lipscomb University Department of Theatre is proud to present its most exciting season to date under the theme “Aligning the Stars,” so named because the season is produced by three stars of the Nashville theater scene: Lipscomb Theatre; Blackbird Theater, Lipscomb’s artist-in-residence; and the Circle Players, Nashville’s oldest community theater. These three organizations are combining their efforts to bring you a varied and powerful season – all under one roof.
This year a sampler package is available, allowing patrons to purchase tickets to the three shows of their choice for $30. Contact the Lipscomb Box Office at 966-7077 to purchase this ticket package.
