HumanDocs presents Oscar-nominated <em>Inside Job</em> about America's economic meltdown

The HumanDocs social justice film series, hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences at Lipscomb University, presents a free public screening of Inside Job, on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m. in Ward Hall.

 

This documentary by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Charles Ferguson looks at the behind-the-scenes causes of the financial meltdown of 2008.

 

Partnering with the HumanDocs series are Lipscomb's College of Business and Dean Institute for Corporate Governance and Integrity along with the Nashville Film Festival. A brief panel discussion will follow featuring leaders from the Dean Institute and invited guests.

 

Inside Job, featuring extensive research and interviews with major financial insiders, politicians and journalists, has won the best documentary award from the New York Film Critics Circle, was named one of the top five documentaries of the year by the National Board of Review and won outstanding directional achievement in documentary from the Directors Guild. The Lipscomb screening will take place just four days before Inside Job goes up against four other films for the Academy Award for best documentary (feature).

 

According to the director Ferguson, “This film attempts to provide a comprehensive portrayal of… the worst financial crisis since the Depression. It was a completely avoidable crisis; indeed for 40 years after the reforms following the Great Depression, the United States did not have a single financial crisis. It is also my hope that, whatever political opinions individual viewers may have, that after seeing this film we can all agree on the importance of restoring honesty and stability to our financial system...”
