Former Arkansas governor and nationally syndicated radio host Mike Huckabee will be the featured speaker at The Operation Andrew Group’s Joe & Honey Rodgers Leadership Award dinner Monday, Oct. 21, at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Mike HuckabeeHuckabee, host of “Huckabee” on the Fox News Channel and Cumulus Media Networks’ syndicated radio program, “The Huckabee Report,” was a candidate in the 2008 Republican Party presidential primaries. He will address the issue of “Leadership that Unifies” at the event, which will feature entertainment by The Isaacs, Gaither Music recording artists.

“The evening is designed to bring people of various backgrounds and beliefs together to celebrate Christian leaders in our community and across the nation,” said Mike Arrington, president of The Operation Andrew Group. “Mike Huckabee has deep sense of faith and was greatly influenced by his early years as a pastor. We can all learn from his journey.”

Also during the event, Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell will be recognized as the recipient of the 2013 Joe and Honey Rodgers Christian Civic Leader of the Year Award. Harwell, a Lipscomb University graduate, is Tennessee’s first female Speaker of the House who is known as an advocate for issues including tougher sexual abuse laws, victims’ rights, welfare reform, children’s issues and education.

“The Joe and Honey Rodgers Leadership Award is given to a person who lives in Christian humility and service to others,” said Rhonda Lowry, assistant professor of spiritual formation and senior fellow of the Institute for Christian Spirituality at Lipscomb and chair of the event planning committee. “It is given with great appreciation for decades of service to organizations, businesses and individuals. Joe Rodgers, the namesake of the award, would be especially proud that a leader in government office is being recognized by community leaders for Christian character and leadership.  Speaker Harwell's daily example of love for her faith, family and service to others is an inspiration to us all and challenges us to live by Godly principles and give our lives to helping others”
