Lipscomb University’s accounting program, housed in the College of Business, was recently named the top in Tennessee and No. 2 in the nation by Christian Universities Online in its “Top 10 Accounting Colleges & Universities” ranking.

Lipscomb ranked above Calvin College, Azusa Pacific University, Biola University, Oklahoma Christian University and Union University among others.

“This is just more proof of the great accounting legacy that our program is built on and the commitment of our department chair Brian Masterson and the accounting faculty to ensure our accounting leadership for the future,” said Ray Eldridge, dean of Lipscomb’s College of Business.

According to Christian Universities Online, accounting ranks as the seventh most popular major among U.S. college students.

“This should come as no surprise as a degree in accounting opens up a wealth of job opportunities, ranging from government work, to careers in finance or corporate management, to entrepreneurial opportunities and more,” said Anna Rebekah Orr, of Christian Universities Online.  “The basic tool and language of business, jobs in accounting require a high level of technical skill combined with strong ethics. Accounting is an area well suited for lovers of math and individuals with high moral standards.”

Masterson said the recognition is just the latest example of the program’s continued success.

“Lipscomb’s accounting program has had a reputation for decades of producing accountants who are not only prepared for practice on day one, but who are also men and women of high ethics and integrity,” said Masterson. “This recognition is further confirmation that we have a program with a mission that puts a high value on those very important traits.”

Masterson said that he is also excited about the performance of Lipscomb Master of Accountancy students in  2016 on the CPA exam. The overall pass rate for these students across the four parts of the CPA exam was an impressive 63 precent, which was the second-highest pass rate for graduate accounting students in Tennessee, behind only the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Lipscomb’s College of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting, a Master of Accountancy program, a Certificate of Accountancy and a graduate certificate in professional accountancy.
