Stan Lowery named director of human resources

Nashville business veteran Stan Lowery has been appointed director of human resources for Lipscomb University, which has 1,387 employees, which includes full-time and adjunct faculty as well as academy and university staff.
“Stan brings a strong background of working with employees in a variety of settings that positions him as a leader in the human resources field and good fit for Lipscomb University,” said Danny Taylor, senior vice president for finance and administraton at Lipscomb University. “The perspective and knowledge base that he has gained through his work in the corporate, small business and nonprofit environments provides him with a skill set uniquely suited to serve the employees at Lipscomb. Stan has also developed a reputation for being a good problem-solver. We look forward to the energy, creativity and commitment he brings to the Lipscomb community.”
Lowery has a career of nearly 25 years in human resources. He has worked in human resources at a variety of Nashville businesses including Averitt Express, First Union National Bank of Tennessee, BT Services Tennessee Inc. and Smith Seckman Reid Inc. Mostly recently Lowery served for nine years as church life minister at Hillsboro Church of Christ, where he managed daily administrative and facility operations among other responsibilities.
“I am excited about the opportunity to build on the solid foundation of great things going on at Lipscomb,” said Lowery. “Our employees are our strongest asset. I also enjoy bringing people together to collaborate and solve problems. I’m a fixer and a team builder. That’s what I do.”
Lowery, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Lipscomb University, said he is spending the first 90 days on the job getting familiar with the Lipscomb community.
“I am building relationships and working to get the human resources office out among the employees,” said Lowery. “I also want to examine and analyze the processes we have in place to make sure we are as efficient and effective as possible. My goal is to continue to look for ways to help Lipscomb be one of the best places to work in Nashville.”
Lowery’s wife, Anne, is assistant professor of dietetics and director of the dietetic internship program at Lipscomb University. They have three sons, David Austin, a Lipscomb University freshman; and Nathan, freshman, and Ben, an eighth grader, at Lipscomb Academy.
