Summer Celebration shares insights from Joshua

As spring days turn to summer, final details are being put into place for Summer Celebration 2014 at Lipscomb University.

summer cel 3“Reviving the Mission: Insights from Joshua” is the theme for this year’s edition of Lipscomb University’s annual lectureship set for June 29-July 1.

More than 200 program offerings, including morning and evening keynote celebration sessions, morning and afternoon classes, ACAFEST, a faith and culture movie series, book signings, sponsored meals, classes in Spanish, worship, musical guests and more are planned this year.

“There is something for everyone at Summer Celebration,” said Scott Sager, vice president for church services. “By the time our guests have experienced Summer Celebration, we hope they will feel called to revive the mission of Christ in their congregations and that they feel spiritually revived themselves. We also hope they know that Lipscomb is a spiritual partner and fellow soldier in this mission.”

Keynote speakers include Joseph Shulam, Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry; Jeff Walling, Providence Road Church of Christ, Charlotte, N.C.; Patrick Mead, Fourth Avenue Church of Christ, Franklin, Tenn.; John Mark Hicks, Lipscomb University; David Skidmore, North Boulevard Church of Christ, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Jerry Taylor, Abilene Christian University; Rick Atchley, The Hills Church of Christ, North Richland Hills, Texas; Shon Smith, Naperville Church of Christ, Naperville, Ill.; Josh Ross, Sycamore View Church of Christ, Memphis, Tenn.; and Landon Sanders, Heartbeat. High Octane Kidz Blitz is the theme of children’s classes this year. Summer Celebration Teens 2014 will focus on “Mission Control.” Click here for more information.

The event will conclude on July 1 with a family picnic, evening keynote and an Independence Day concert and fireworks display. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with food available for purchase from a variety of vendors. Christian group Durant will lead a period of worship at 6 p.m. followed by keynote speakers Landon Sanders and Josh Ross at 6:30 p.m.

A concert featuring the Annie Moses Band, a musical ensemble known for their virtuosic strings and creative re-imagining of American classics, begins in the Allen Arena Mall at 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m. guests will be treated to a fireworks display to help celebrate Independence Day.
