        <title>College of Education launches new program for students with intellectual disabilities</title>

            <description>A door to a new educational option has been opened for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities as a result of a recent $100,000 grant awarded to Lipscomb University’s College of Education (COE) from the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. This summer, the College of Education will launch IDEAL (Igniting the Dream of Education and Access at Lipscomb), a program that will offer a two-year academic certificate experience to an initial cohort of up to six students with intellectual disabilities. Classes will begin January 2014. Lipscomb is the first Christian university in Tennessee to offer such a program.</description>

Bringing 18 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience in the Atlantic Sun Conference to the storied Bison program, Alexander takes over the reins of the Lipscomb program after a two-year stint at Stetson University, where he led the Hatters to a third-place finish in the A-Sun standings. </description>

            <description>Patty Landon Dugger had quite a reputation at one time in the Tennessee Governor’s office. No, she didn’t have a reputation as a dissatisfied constituent or a lobbyist. Rather, she was legendary for training the best office administrators in the area. Today, the Lipscomb community is mourning the loss of Dugger, longtime business faculty member and director of the Lifelong Learning Program, who died May 13 at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness. </description>

        <title>University celebrates largest graduating class in history</title>

            <description>The Lipscomb community marked another milestone this spring as more than 659 graduates were honored for completing coursework in May or August 2013. For the eighth consecutive year, more students than ever before participated in commencement, held May 4 in Allen Arena. During the ceremony, 385 undergraduates, 216 graduates and 68 doctors of pharmacy graduates were recognized. Included in this year’s graduating class were 35 veterans who were part of the university’s Yellow Ribbon Program as well as the first students to graduate with a Master of Science degree in biomolecular science.

            <description>Social media use has grown dramatically among internet users ages 50 and older, according to a recent Pew Research Center report. The study indicates that social networking use by this segment of the population has nearly doubled in the past year. During the same period, use among those ages 65 and older grew 100 percent. By comparison, social networking use among users ages 18 to 29 grew 13 percent. However, social networking products and services are often not designed with users 50 and older in mind.
