6/10/2013 For incoming freshman at Lipscomb University, college normally doesn’t feel “real” until they attend ADVANCE. ADVANCE is a summer orientation program for incoming freshman. This year, the two-day program is offered June 13-14, July 8-9 and Aug. 12-13 for incoming freshmen and their parents during the month of June, July and August. It’s an important program for the students, as well as the parents.

5/30/2013 Madi Talbert, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., became the first Lady Bison track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Nationals last weekend when she crushed the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She crossed the finish line in 10:11.21. The NCAA finals will be held in Eugene, Oregon June 5-8.

The American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State is a recurring event on the campus of Lipscomb University. Girls State has been coming to Lipscomb’s campus for around four years now.

College of Education launches new program for students with intellectual disabilities

5/22/2013 A door to a new educational option has been opened for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities as a result of a recent $100,000 grant awarded to Lipscomb University’s College of Education (COE) from the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. This summer, the College of Education will launch IDEAL (Igniting the Dream of Education and Access at Lipscomb), a program that will offer a two-year academic certificate experience to an initial cohort of up to six students with intellectual disabilities. Classes will begin January 2014. Lipscomb is the first Christian university in Tennessee to offer such a program.

5/18/2013 Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced May 18 that Nashville native Casey Alexander has been hired as the 18th head coach of the Lipscomb University men’s basketball program. Bringing 18 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience in the Atlantic Sun Conference to the storied Bison program, Alexander takes over the reins of the Lipscomb program after a two-year stint at Stetson University, where he led the Hatters to a third-place finish in the A-Sun standings.

Lipscomb community mourns the loss of longtime business professor

5/14/2013 Patty Landon Dugger had quite a reputation at one time in the Tennessee Governor’s office. No, she didn’t have a reputation as a dissatisfied constituent or a lobbyist. Rather, she was legendary for training the best office administrators in the area. Today, the Lipscomb community is mourning the loss of Dugger, longtime business faculty member and director of the Lifelong Learning Program, who died May 13 at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness.
