Ayers Institute awarded $1.2 million THEC grant to work with Common Core Standards

8/28/2012 The Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) has awarded a $1.2 million contract to Lipscomb’s Ayers Institute to create resources for university faculty to use when preparing new teachers to employ the national and state-adopted Common Core Standards.

8/28/2012 Jim Humphrey, assistant dean of students and director of Veterans Services at Lipscomb University, was recently appointed by Governor Bill Haslam to serve on the Governor’s Council on Service Members, Veterans & Their Families. Humphrey is among 10 new appointees selected from across the state of Tennessee to serve on the council.

Deery remembered for the impact he made on the lives of others

8/27/2012 Track and field standout Matt Deery was remembered Thursday, Aug. 23, as a good teammate and friend who had an infectious smile and impacted the lives of everyone around him. The Lipscomb community gathered in Collins Alumni Auditorium to celebrate the life of Deery, who died Aug. 1 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Upper Nazareth Township, Pa. He was honored by his teammates, coaches and university administrators during the service.

8/24/2012 Responding to mass transit needs and options in Middle Tennessee, the Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee and Lipscomb University’s Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership have brought leaders from across the region together to examine transit opportunities as part of its third Transit Citizen Leadership Academy. Nashville Mayor Karl Dean opened the new session of the Transit Citizen Leadership Academy Aug. 22, stressing the importance of this course of study.

8/23/2012 Being a servant leader isn’t always easy according to Jim Wright, chairman and chief executive officer for Tractor Supply Company (TSC). Wright told a crowd of nearly 800 at the Aug. 22 Nashville Business Breakfast in Allen Arena that servant leadership is “a point of view and practice” that has helped TSC grow into the largest operator of retail farm stores in the United States. It operates more than 1,100 stores in 44 states—employing over 16,000 people — and is ranked among Fortune’s 100 fastest-growing companies.

Bookstore debuts new online ordering system for fall semester

8/13/2012 Students accustomed to getting a bacon-ranch sub sandwich out of the window at Sub Connection will now be getting an order of Accounting 101 with Chemistry 2 on the side. Through the bookstore's new online ordering system, students must order their books at lipscomb.textbooktech.com at least 24 hours before they pick them up in the new location.

Youngblood brings lifelong love of nursing to Lipscomb program

7/30/2012 Beth Youngblood has wanted to be a nurse for as long as she can remember. As a child, she played teacher and nurse with her collection of stuffed animals. Determined that she wanted to pursue a career in nursing, Youngblood, at age 13, got a job helping out in a large Nashville obstetrics and gynecology practice. It was there that she fell in love with women’s health and the excitement that comes with expectant families.

7/24/2012 Jim Wright, chairman and chief executive officer for Tractor Supply Company (TSC), will be the featured speaker at Lipscomb University’s Nashville Business Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Allen Arena. Wright joined TSC as president and chief operating officer in November 2000. In 2004 he was named CEO and was appointed chairman in 2007. TSC is a 1,100-plus retail farm and ranch chain based in Nashville.
