College of Education launches new Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree Kim Chaudoin 3/11/2013 Lipscomb University’s College of Education is launching a new offering for educators — the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree, featuring four major areas of study. The university is offering a 20 percent discount for full-time educators and alumni who enroll in the program. Classes begin this summer and are offered in the evening, weekends and online. The Ed.S. may be completed in less than two years.

'Pizza & Politics' program lets students make tough budget decisions with Concord Coalition exercise University Communication and Marketing 3/11/2013 Students will have a unique opportunity to think like a congressman and make tough budget decisions at a special edition of Lipscomb University’s Pizza & Politics Series Wednesday, March 13. Lipscomb University’s Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership and College of Business are partnering with the Concord Coalition and the Campaign to Fix the Debt to offer this unique look at the tough issues surrounding government spending and the growing federal debt.

Hurt honored as top freshman in the A-Sun Lipscomb Athletics 3/7/2013 As the No. 2 rebounding and scoring freshman center in the nation, Lipscomb men’s basketball big man Stephen Hurt has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference “Freshman of the Year” as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Lipscomb endows a professorship in honor of accountant Charles Frasier David England 3/4/2013 College of Business Dean Turney Stevens announced The Charles E. Frasier Professorship of Accounting at a dinner Tuesday, Feb. 26, in honor of Frasier, who is professor and chair of the department of accounting, finance and economics.

Lipscomb receives unique art collection of more than 100 pieces from Taylor family Kim Chaudoin 3/1/2013 Lipscomb University students will have the opportunity to learn from a unique collection of paintings that were recently given to the university’s College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). Dr. Dean Taylor, a former pathologist at Nashville’s Centennial Medical Center, recently donated more than 100 paintings to the CAS in memory of his late wife, Mary. The Mary Elbert Taylor Art Collection is valued at more than $275,000 and is comprised of pieces his wife assembled over a span of nearly a decade. She died in 2012.

Andrews Institute marks 50th anniversary of Metro Nashville with focus on neighborhoods Kim Chaudoin 2/26/2013 Lipscomb University’s Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership is marking the 50th anniversary of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County by hosting a discussion of Nashville’s neighborhood associations on March 6. The event is free and open to the public.

LifePoint’s William F. Carpenter III to speak at Nashville Business Breakfast March 12 Kim Chaudoin 2/24/2013 William F. Carpenter III, chairman and chief executive officer of LifePoint Hospitals., will be the featured speaker at Lipscomb University’s Nashville Business Breakfast at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, in Allen Arena.

Bond featured in this week’s ‘NASHVILLE,’ producing movie on Don Meyer Kim Chaudoin 2/24/2013 Former Bison outfielder Casey Bond, who was featured in the critically-acclaimed film, Moneyball, will appear in the next new episode of ABC television’s “Nashville.” Bond portrays Gil Martin, chief of staff for Mayor Teddy Conrad, in Episode 14, “Dear Brother,” set to air Wed., Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. CST.

Charlie Daniels, Chris Young headlined the iostudio Charlie Daniels’ Scholarship for Heroes concert Kim Chaudoin 2/19/2013 Legendary musician Charlie Daniels hosted a special free concert Tuesday to support Lipscomb University’s Yellow Ribbon Enhancement Program as part of the iostudio Charlie Daniels’ Scholarship for Heroes event. Performances by Daniels along with Chris Young, The Grascals, Keni Thomas, Bleach and surprise guest Jason Aldean were part on the program.

Andrews Institute student selected as finalist in first Business for Good contest Janel Shoun-Smith 2/18/2013 Jane Andrews, Davidson County’s CASA director and 2012-13 master’s candidate at the Nelson and Sue Andrews Institute for Civic Leadership, submitted her capstone project to expand CASA training to other professionals working with child victims of abuse to the Social Enterprise Alliance's Business for Good Competition and has been selected as one of 10 finalists.

Youngblood, Cobb receive top March of Dimes honors Kim Chaudoin 2/15/2013 The Lipscomb University School of Nursing was well represented at the 2012 Middle Tennessee March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Celebration in December. Beth Youngblood, executive associate dean and professor of nursing, was named the March of Dimes Women’s Health Nurse of the Year. Senior nursing student Anna Cobb was named the March of Dimes Undergraduate Student Nurse of the Year.

Ellenburg named president of Middle Tennessee Christian School Kim Chaudoin 2/11/2013 Lipscomb University General Counsel Phil Ellenburg has been named president of Middle Tennessee Christian School (MTCS), a preK-12 school affiliated with the Churches of Christ located in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Ellenburg, who joined the university staff in January 1994, will begin his role with MTCS in April.

Lauded graphic designer Michael Bierut to speak Monday at Presidential Lectureship Janel Shoun-Smith 2/8/2013 Graphic designer Michael Bierut, of New York City-based design firm Pentagram, will offer a free lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11 in Ward Hall, as part of Lipscomb University’s 2013 Presidential Lectureship for Art and Art History. This event is free and open to the public. A free reception will follow the lecture.

SALT program celebrates five years of service and learning at Lipscomb Janel Shoun-Smith 2/5/2013 This semester marks the fifth anniversary of the highly successful SALT Program (Serving and Learning Together) at Lipscomb University. Burgess named National Council on Family Relations fellow Kim Chaudoin 2/4/2013 Norma Bond Burgess, dean of Lipscomb University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), has been named a National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) fellow. NCFR is the nation’s premier professional association for the multidisciplinary understanding of families. NCFR has a membership of more than 3600 family researchers, practitioners and educators.

Lipscomb in Britain latest global learning offering, will launch this fall Kim Chaudoin 2/1/2013 Lipscomb University students will soon have a new opportunity to be submerged in a culture thousands of miles away from campus through the Lipscomb in Britain program set to launch this fall. The newest offering of Lipscomb’s Global Learning Program is based in the historic city of Bath, England, which has been in integral part of British culture since pre-Roman times. Located 97 miles west of London, Bath has played a significant historical role, has a rich architectural heritage and is the home of author Jane Austen and the Roman baths among other features.
