College of Education, Ayers Institute offers new Educational Leadership Program for fall

Lipscomb University’s College of Education and Ayers Institute for Teacher Learning and Innovation are partnering to offer an innovative new educational leadership program designed to prepare educators for leadership positions at the school, district and state level. The program will begin in August.
“This program is designed for current and aspiring educational leaders,” said Candice McQueen, dean of the College of Education. “The program offers innovative leadership competencies that will incorporate a focus on ethical leadership. That is a cornerstone of Lipscomb’s College of Education curriculum. An emphasis on leading student achievement for all students is also a key focus of this program.”
The educational leadership program features four leadership strands including Personal and Ethical Leadership, Visionary Leadership, Learning Focused Leadership and Organizational Leadership. McQueen said that each strand is built upon research-driven leadership competencies, which participants will master and be ready to apply in the field. These competencies will be learned and practiced through innovative field experiences in which participants will work directly with a practicing mentor coach throughout the entire program. Students may pursue a master’s degree, an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree and/or a Tennessee Instructional Leadership License (ILL-B) through the program.
The university is offering a 26 percent discount for full-time educators enrolling in the program on the master’s level and a 20 percent discount for full-time educators taking courses through the Ed.S. program. Alumni who enroll in the program are eligible for a 20 percent discount. Classes begin in August and are offered in the evening, weekends and online. The program may be completed in less than two years. This program is also available through offsite cohorts meeting in Franklin, Murfreesboro and Wilson County in Tennessee.
Program participants will be chosen from an application and interview process. McQueen said that upon completion, participants will not only be qualified to serve as school administrators in Tennessee, they will also possess the necessary skills to be highly effective, ethical school leaders who will drive positive student achievement growth.
