The Lipscomb University Student Activities Center (SAC) will serve as the headquarters for the new Davidson County chapter of Stroller Strides®, a nationwide mommy-and-me fitness program that has been profiled on CNN, the Today Show and in Women’s Day magazine.

Stroller Strides Nashville will begin programming based in Lipscomb’s SAC on Jan. 9. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. until warmer weather in April, when the circuit exercise program will move to nearbySevier Park.

Stroller Strides is offering a discount for Lipscomb faculty, staff, alumni and spouses: a special membership fee of $30 (a $45 savings) and a special monthly fee of $35 (a $15 per month savings). Included in the fees is a shirt and exercise tubing.

Stroller Strides is the country's largest stroller fitness program for moms, offering pre- and post-natal fitness classes for every stage of motherhood. While Stroller Strides exists in every state, there are only three franchises in Tennessee: in Clarksville, Knoxville and Williamson County. The classes at Lipscomb mark a return of Stroller Strides classes to Davidson County after several years.

“We at Lipscomb are excited to partner with a business that provides such a needed service for new mothers,” said Emily Harris, director of campus recreation at Lipscomb University. “Post-natal weight loss is tough, especially while also caring for a new baby. This program provides physical and social enrichment for both mom and baby. That’s a healthy, holistic approach that we have always supported here at Lipscomb.”

The local Stroller Strides franchise owner and instructor Andrea Hall said the program offers mothers intervals of both cardio and strength training in a circuit workout. The program accepts mothers and their babies as young as six weeks old. Special programs are offered for pregnant mothers and for mothers trying to get their figure back after giving birth.

“Most of our mothers come because they enjoy getting out of the house as much as the exercise. They get to socialize with other moms and their children get to play together after class. The little ones become friends and so do the moms,” said Hall.

Until spring, Stroller Strides classes will be held in Lipscomb’s SAC, which was recently renovated and expanded, adding an enlarged and fully quipped weight and cardio room, new floors in the gymnasium and aerobics rooms, and a new Spinning® studio.
