Violist Clare Yang joined the Nashville Symphony in 1995. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, she moved to the “Hoosier” state at age four and grew up in Bloomington, Indiana. She holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University, where her principal teachers were Abraham Skernick, Atar Arad and Stanley Ritchie. Clare was a first prize winner in the 1995 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition. She has also played with the Evansville Philharmonic and Owensboro Symphony Orchestras. An active chamber musician in the Nashville area, Clare has served on the faculty of Tennessee Technological, Belmont and Lipscomb universities. When not playing the viola, Clare enjoys hanging out with her daughter Rachel, taking hikes with her black lab Ella, reading, knitting and doing yoga.
