Dr. Carolyn Treybig teaches flute at Lipscomb University. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas (at Austin), her Master of Music (Flute) and Master of Music (History) from the University of Akron and her Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music. Treybig's primary instructors have included William Hebert (Cleveland Orchestra), Jaqueline Hofto (Interlochen Arts Academy), Peter Lloyd (London Symphony, London Virtuosi), and George Pope (Akron Symphony, Solaris Wind Quintet). She has also performed in masterclasses with such renowned player/pedagogues as Martha Aarons, Julia Bogorad, Leone Buyse, Adrianne Greenbaum, Eric Hoover, Katherine Kemler, Kate Lukas, Sandra Miller, Trygve Peterson, Robert Stallman, Jim Walker, Robert Willoughby, and Trevor Wye.
Before moving to Nashville in 2005, Treybig taught applied flute, music history, and music appreciation at Southeastern Louisiana University and then served as the Graduate Coordinator for the School of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she also served as an adjunct flute instructor. She has performed with symphony orchestras in Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas, and most recently has performed and recorded on flute and piccolo with the Nashville Symphony.
Treybig is an active solo and chamber performer, and has performed as a guest artist in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Her solo and chamber performances have been broadcast throughout the southeast. She performs regularly with the Belmont Chamber Winds and has performed with numerous wind quintets as well as other chamber ensembles such as Duo Brilliante (flute & guitar), Diapason Wind Trio (flute, trumpet, & organ) and Triptych (2 flutes & piano). Her chamber recitals include diverse works, ranging from the chamber works of J.S. Bach to George Crumb's Vox Balaenae.
Treybig is an active guest clinician, and has presented clinics and masterclasses at high schools, universities, and the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts, and has served as an adjudicator for concerto competitions and MTNA performance competitions. Treybig is the director of the Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble and also teaches flute and coaches chamber ensembles at the Tennessee Valley Music Festival each summer. Her recital performances have been broadcast on public radio throughout the southeast, and she may be heard on several recordings, including 'The University of Texas Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall,' and the soundtrack to the video game 'Ultima IX: Ascension'.
