It is often the entry point for many Lipscomb students into where they will spend their spring break week or summer months being the Hands and Feet of Christ. It is exciting. It is humbling. It is exhilarating. It happens once a year and is the only time you can find every Lipscomb mission trip in one location at the same time. The Missions Fair at Lipscomb has been a staple event for students for over a decade and on October 6th over 600 students walked through the 40+ trip displays open to where God was leading them to serve on a 2010 Lipscomb mission trip. The Missions Fair serves as the unofficial kick-off for the upcoming year’s mission trips as the teams educate interested students about their trip purpose and the vision that implements that purpose into action. Some students come knowing exactly which trips peak their interest based on their research on the mission website. Others find themselves leaving feeling overwhelmed with a plethora of opportunities that they then must narrow down during the coming month as they attend informational sessions and go through a trip’s team formation process.
Year after year, the Missions Fair proves to be the beginning of the journey for so many students. It is exciting because they cannot comprehend where God will lead them and how He will use them for the glory of His kingdom through their participation in these mission efforts. It is humbling because one does not know how God will open doors for them to share their faith with others while growing closer to the Father through their service to others. It is exhilarating because on a normal night at the beginning of October, their life could be drastically altered forever because of a decision they made to serve in a place which they have yet been and to serve a person whom they have yet met.
