High School Mathematics

The David Lipscomb High School math department offers a college prep program to prepare students for the math challenges that lie in the future.

There are two basic tracks of math that are offered.

The advanced math track offers students the opportunity to take Honors Algebra II during the freshman year, Honors Geometry during the sophomore year, Precalculus Honors during the junior year and AP Calculus during the senior year. Placement in the advanced track is initially determined during the middle school years. It is possible for students who excel in the regular track to enter the advanced track by doubling up on math classes during either the sophomore or junior year.

The regular math track is the one that the majority of students follow. Algebra I is taken during the freshman year, Algebra II during the sophomore year, and Geometry during the junior year. These 3 courses meet the current math graduation requirement. Students are strongly encouraged to continue the math experience by taking Precalculus, Pre-College Algebra or Statistics as Seniors.

The math department realizes that a strong foundation in math is extremely important to keep pace with the expanding world of technology. It is our goal to equip our students with the necessary skills to compete and excel in the marketplace for the careers of the future and the Christ-like character to be a spiritual light to the world.
