Lipscomb began its LIFE (Lipscomb Initiative for Education) program in 2007. Since then, professors from the university have conducted classes at the Tennessee Prison for Women that bring traditional undergraduate students together with women at the prison. In 2009, the "inside students" established a creative arts journal for the LIFE program named Chiaroscuro. The program graduated its first class from the prison in December 2013. 91.9 FM WUOT recently ran a feature about the program.
