On the move and in the news....
The Department of Kinesiology selected its outstanding students for the 2012-2013 academic year. The Outstanding HPE award went to Mollie Mitchell. Mitchell is currently a graduate student at Lipscomb and works as a GA with the university softball team. The Outstanding Exercise Science award went to Aaron Puryear and Chaslynn McAvoy. Puryear will attend P.A. school at Trevecca University beginning this summer and McAvoy plans to attend medical school.
Exercise and Nutrition Science graduate assistants Hannah DeWalt and Erin Gainey recently won a student award for their presentation at the second annual Lipscomb University Scholars Symposium titled “Physical Fitness Status of the Average Lipscomb Freshman: A DescriptiveAnalysis of Aerobic Capacity, Muscular Endurance, and Body Composition in PE 2012 Students.” DeWalt and Gainey were given a certificate and cash award for their presentation.
Dr. Kent Johnson was awarded a 2013 Lipscomb Summer Research grant. The work will involve writing two research articles for publication. Johnson also presented a research poster at the 60th Annual American College of Sports Medicine Meeting, May 28-June 1, 2013, in Indianapolis, Ind., titled “Functional Movement Screening Test Scores Improve Following an Off-Season Intervention Training Program in Collegiate Track and Field Athletes.”
