Institute for Christian Spirituality
PROGRAM DESIGN
The degree involves 36 credit hours of courses which are divided into three categories: core classes (28 hrs), research courses (2 hrs), and a final ministry project (6 hrs). This is a 3 year program which follows a cohort model.
Courses involve four two-week residencies (two each year), usually on Lipscomb’s campus. At least two months prior to the residency, a course syllabus will be made available. This syllabus will contain assignments related to one’s particular ministry, to be completed prior to the residency. Each three-hour course includes a post-residency assignment; this involves integrating course content into one’s ministry and evaluating the results. The courses will involve peer learning and evaluation leading to the self-directed research required by each unit of study – leading to the final research project.

UNIQUE RESIDENCY FEATURES
Each two week residency is also an experience in spiritual formation. There are daily times of prayer integrated into the schedule. An offsite retreat is set for the weekend between courses. A spiritual director is also available to meet with students over the 2 week period.
Tuition covers the costs of breakfast and lunch. It also covers the housing and meal costs associated with the retreats. This degree is meant to be a wonderful experience of community with other doctoral students in your cohort!
