The M.T.S. is a 48-hour degree program designed for students interested in theological education for a variety of educational and personal goals. The purpose of the degree is to provide meaningful grounding in the theological disciplines.

I.  GB 5003 Introduction to Theological Study (3 hours)

II. Scripture (15 hours)

GB 5013 Critical Introduction to the Bible  
GB 6083 OT Interpretation and Theology
GB 6093 NT Interpretation and Theology
Scripture Electives  (6 hours)

III. Theology and History (12 hours chosen from the following)

GB 5433 American Church History
GB 5403 Systematic Theology
GB 5423 Historical Theology I
GB 5443 Historical Theology II
GB 5473 Christian Ethics
GB 5Cn3 Seminar in Theology
GB 5Dn3 Seminar in Historical Theology
 
IV. Emphasis (9 hours)
 
a. Old Testament
GB 5043 Biblical Hebrew I
GB 5063 Biblical Hebrew II
OT Scripture Electives (3 hours)
b. New Testament
GB 5033 Biblical Greek I
GB 5073 Biblical Greek II
NT Scripture Electives (3 hours)
c. Scripture
OT Scripture Electives (3-6 hours)
NT Scripture Electives (3-6 hours)
d. Theology and History
Theology and History Electives (9 hours)
e. No Emphasis

V.  Electives (9 hours from any courses offered by HST that are not already counting toward the above requirements or emphasis)

VI. Comprehensive Exam

 

Minimum G.P.A. - The minimum cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) for the Master of Theological Studies degree is 2.75. No grade below a 'C' is acceptable.

 

Note:  A maximum of six hours in ministry courses may be taken toward the M.T.S.
