Mr. Marc Schwerdt began teaching at Lipscomb in 2004. His specialized areas of academic study include international relations, American politics, and research methods. He teaches a variety of courses, such as Intro to Politics, International Relations, International Conflict, Comparative Governments, Contemporary Political Methodologies, Americam Political Throught, European Political Thought, Political Parties and Interest Groups, and Senior Seminar.
Mr. Schwerdt has several published articles and conference presentations, most of which have to do with the manner in which public service individuals are presented in children's literature. He is also a member of the American Political Science Association, the International Society for Political Psychology, and the Western Political Science Association.
Dr. Dwight L. Tays, Professor

Dr. Dwight Tays has been teaching at Lipscomb since 1985. His areas of academic specialization include American government, public law and public administration. In the past, he has been the Chair of the Department of History, Politics and Philosophy, the President of the Tennessee Political Science Association, on the Board of Visitors of Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX, on the Academic Advisory Committee for the Tennessee Legislative Internship Program, a Co-chair of the Membership Committee of the American Society for Public Administration, Middle Tennessee Chapter, on the Board of Directors for Nashville Christian School, and employed as a Pre-Law Advisor.
Dr. Tays has many article publications on a variety of political topics. He has also presented several papers in political meetings. He is also presently involved in research and professional inquiry, including accessing the legal status of Indian Nations within the U.S. political system, empirical application of theoretical concepts of presidential decision making, and formulating policy and administrative recommendations at the state level. He also provides a political consulting service.
Mr. Guy R. Vanderpool, Visiting Professor

Mr. Guy Vanderpool has been a visiting professor of political science at Lipscomb since 1996. He teaches History of Modern China and the Far East, American Foreign Policy, and Intelligence and National Security. He is a Senior Fellow of the Center for International Peace and Justice. Vanderpool came to Lipscomb after a 35 year career with the National Security Agency where he specialized in foreign policy issues and counter-intelligence.
Dr. Tony Miller, Instructor

Professor Tony Miller has been an adjunct instructor in the department since 2001, and he teaches Judicial Process and Criminal Procedure. He is a practicing attorney with litigation experience in both civil and criminal law.
