H1N1 Facts

 

What is Novel H1N1 (Swine Flu)?
  • Novel H1N1 (also referred to as Swine Flu) is a new virus causing illness in people.
  • The CDC has determined that Novel H1N1 virus is contagious and spreads from person to person.
  • H1N1 is thought to spread much in the same way as the seasonal flu through coughing, sneezing or touching surfaces or objects with flu virus on it then rubbing your eyes or nose.
What are the Signs/Symptoms?
If you experience any of the following symptoms please contact your RA or or Head Resident.
  • Fever • Headache
  • Cough • Chills
  • Sore Throat • Fatigue
  • Body Aches • Vomiting and diarrhea
You should contact a Medical Professional if you experience the following emergency warning signs:
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness or breath
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
How Can I Help Prevent the Spread of H1N1?
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Use alcohol-based hand cleaners if soap and water are not available
  • If you are sick with flu-like symptoms, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to receive medical care.
