Studying abroad is an exciting and rewarding experience that often requires more preparation than studying on the home campus. We hope the following FAQs will help you get started.

Will studying abroad push back my graduation date? Semester-long programs typically do not interfere with graduating on time because they offer several general education requirements. And, many students have taken an independent study course in their major while in Vienna or Santiago. Please consult your advisor and department chair. Short-term (5 weeks or less) travel courses usually take place outside the standard academic year, and should not change your graduation date.
May I use frequent flier miles to purchase my own air tickets? Yes. The cost of the group ticket will then be removed from your Program Fees (when applicable). Tell the Global Learning office upon application and then submit a copy of your ticket itinerary. You must arrive as close to the group as possible.
Do I need a visa to study abroad? Most U.S. students going abroad for programs less than 90 days do not require a visa. The Global Learning Office will let you know what your program requires and will work with you on this process. If you are a Lipscomb student and not a U.S. citizen, please let us know upon application as you may have different visa requirements.
Will my scholarship apply? It depends on the type of program you are considering. LU semester-long programs, most scholarships apply. However, Lipscomb scholarships do not apply to study abroad programs with our partner organizations such as CCCU and MCCIE. LU short-term travel courses are subsidized, so any Lipscomb institutional scholarships or grants, including those related to campus employment, are not applicable. However, scholarships or financial aid from outside Lipscomb might apply. Consult with Financial Aid, and then the Business Office can assist in setting up a payment schedule.
I have a Presidential Weekend Global Learning Voucher; how does that apply? As of January 1, 2011, the $1,000 Presidential Weekend Global Learning Voucher can be applied in full to Lipscomb University-sponsored global learning programs that provide 12 or more credit hours. The $1,000 Presidential Weekend Global Learning Voucher can be applied on a one time basis at 50% ($500) to Lipscomb University-sponsored global learning travel courses that provide less than 12 credit hours.
