How to Receive a Federal Stafford Loan for Summer 2012:

  1. MUST enroll, complete and not drop below 6 credit hours for the summer term (May-August)
  2. Log into your myLipscomb
    1. Select the Financial Aid Tab
    2. Select Financial Aid Awards
    3. Select 2011-2012 Aid Year
    4. Select "Resources/Additional Information" Tab
    5. Answer "YES" to the Summer Loan Question if you are interested in Summer Stafford Loans
  3. Your Financial Aid Award for 2011-2012 will be updated to include "offered" Stafford loans based on eligibility
    1. *Freshmen (0-29 earned hours) $2,750.00
    2. *Sophomore (30-59 earned hours) $3,250.00
    3. *Junior (60-94 earned hours) $3,750.00
    4. *Senior (95- earned hours) $3,750.00
    5. *Graduate (Degree seeking) $10,250.00
  4. Once you receive an email (to your Lipscomb email address) that your award has been updated, log back into myLipscomb to accept the additional loan amounts.
  5. You MUST accept the additional offered loans (answering the question only does not indicate accepting the loan)
  6. Returning Borrower at Lipscomb University (received a Stafford loan in the fall 2011 or spring 2012 semesters)
    1. Do not need to complete a Master Promissory Note or Entrance Counseling
  7. First Time Borrower at Lipscomb University
    1. Complete Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note through www.studentloans.gov
    2. Complete Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling through www.studentloans.gov
    3. Must complete both items to receive funds from the Department of Education
  8. Parent or Graduate PLUS Loans are available in the summer term with at least 6 credit hours.
    1. MUST maximize Stafford loan offer first by completing the instructions listed above
    2. MUST complete a new PLUS loan application for 2011-2012 through www.studentloans.gov to determine eligibility.
