Community

The English faculty, staff, and students enjoy a strong sense of community both in the classroom and outside it. Because people who love to read also tend to love films, we watch movies together throughout the year and celebrate the Academy Awards with an Oscar-watching party. Each fall and spring we go on overnight retreats together; in the spring we make a road trip, often to a literary festival. We also love good food, so we regularly bring in lunch from a restaurant specializing in an international cuisine--Mediterranean, Ethiopian, Indian, Thai, Turkish, and so on. Our yearly Christmas party culminates in a lively book exchange that has become one of our most festive traditions.
