English & Modern Languages
The Department of English & Modern Languages exists to guide students in exploring the complex and compelling relationships among languages, literatures, and cultures. With majors in English, Spanish, French, and German, our curriculum helps students develop the skills needed to negotiate various linguistic, social, and cultural contexts.
Students majoring in English can select from three degree tracks: literature, for those interested in advanced literary studies; teaching, for those seeking licensure and certification in secondary education; and writing, for those interested in careers as professional or creative writers. All three tracks provide strong foundations for those planning to pursue post-graduate training in fields such as literature, linguistics, law, medicine, education, business, etc.
