The graduate program in Engineering Management at Lipscomb University will include the following subject areas:

Leadership:  The program will undertake an in-depth study of the role of leadership from multiple perspectives.  Students will learn how to assess and develop the core elements of leadership.  In order to prepare the student to lead organizational change, team leadership skills in the areas of collaboration and conflict resolution will be studied and practiced.  To enhance the engineer’s role as a civic leader, the art of influence in affecting the outcome of public policy will be explored.  The study of leadership will include the effects of ethical behavior and integrity on the trustworthiness of the leader and its impact on their effectiveness.

Business Know How:  The program will address the full spectrum of business issues.  The student will develop an understanding of key executive issues in visioning, strategic planning, assessing the business climate, developing sustainable competitive advantage, assessing viability of strategic alternatives, marketing strategy, and brand positioning.  The concepts behind income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flow and their role in assess business performance will be learned.  In addition, the role of business decision models and their applicability will be explored.  Methods of business planning, forecasting, resource allocation, cost analysis, job design and workforce performance will be reviewed from a day to day management perspective.   

Operational/Technical Management:  The program will address the unique needs of managing engineering or technically orientated organizations by using basic statistical procedures to collect, organize, analyze, and interpreting data from experimental models designed to simulate uncertainty and variation in complex engineering problems.  Students will use standard modeling tools to optimize systems in production planning and scheduling, inventory planning, supply chain logistics networks, facility planning and production capacity expansion, and project scheduling.  The principles and practices of Six Sigma and Total Quality Management will be applied as problem solving techniques.  These decision-making, problem solving methods will be combined with extensive project management training to develop students that are capable of executing the simplest to extremely complex, technologically sophisticated projects.
