Thomas Whitfield Student Teacher Award

This award is given to the students who have shown superior potential for excellence in the teaching profession. Awards may be given for students in the K-8, K-12, 7-12 and graduate licensure areas.

Dr. Thomas Whitfield, for whom the award is named, worked at Lipscomb for 39 years, beginning in 1946. He led Lipscomb’s Teacher Education Program through years of growth, national recognition, and service.
In 2004, Dr. Whitfield was recognized as a "Lipscomb Legend". He always maintained that his years of work and dedication would not have been possible without the gracious support of his wife, Kathleen. She was a true help meet to him. As hostess, friend, encourager, and role model, she nurtured faculty and students alike. Dr. Whitfield’s influence for Christ continues to be seen on Lipscomb’s campus as young people choose teaching as a career, but soon discover teaching as a ministry. A good teacher with a good heart can change the life of a student forever.

Whitfiled, Award

The familiar saying, “A teacher affects eternity” describes Dr. Whitfield. He was a model of gentleness, a builder of truth, a teacher of teachers, and a friend of the Master Teacher.
