Lipscomb University's Department of Music will host a special weekend Oct. 12-13, a weekend that will includes an alumni CD recording, a celebration of Dr. Jim Jackson’s eightieth birthday, and dedication of a memorial to the late Dr. Gerald Moore.

The event begins on Friday, October 12, at 6:00 p.m. with a dinner in honor of Dr. Jackson’s eightieth birthday. Dr. Jackson conducted the A Cappella Singers and the Freshman Choir, said Dr. Gary Wilson, director of choral activities at Lipscomb.

Rehearsal for the CD recording will begin after the birthday dinner.  The CD recording will begin on Saturday morning and conclude late Saturday afternoon.  The repertoire will be some hymn arrangements and some standard spirituals, pieces that we can prepare with a minimum of rehearsal time.

At lunch on Saturday, a memorial honoring Dr. Moore will be unveiled and dedicated.  Dr. Moore directed the Early Music Consort, the Chorale, and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

The cost of the weekend is $50 per person, which includes the Friday night dinner and the Saturday luncheon. A portion of the registration fee is considered a tax-deductible contribution to Lipscomb University and will be applied as a gift to the Gerald Moore Music Scholarship, which assists music majors with financial need. Registration is available online at www.lipscomb.edu/music.  All activities will be held in the new McMeen Music Building and the renovated Ward Recital Hall.

"I hope that you will join us for this choral alumni event," WIlson said. "Please feel free to include spouses, grown children or friends who are not Lipscomb University choral alumni.  The more the merrier!"
