COUNSELING SERVICES

WHO’S ELIGIBLE?

Lipscomb University offers a variety of counseling services provided by licensed professional counselors and marital and family therapists for students.

Access to our full range of counseling services is available to currently enrolled University students and employees only. Students and employees receive priority scheduling; alumni may be accommodated when therapists’ schedules permit.  In such cases, counseling services for alumni are normally limited to career counseling and pre-marital counseling.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

The Counseling Center adheres to very strict confidentiality standards. Any information provided is strictly confidential (exceptions required of all counseling professions include life-threatening situations and cases of suspected child or elderly abuse). Counseling records are not part of the student's educational record. Only the counselor has access to his or her counseling records.

LOCATION:

The Counseling Center is located in the basement of Elam Hall on the corner closest to the Student Center. 

HOURS:

Normal operating hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

AFTER HOURS/EMERGENCY:

If you need assistance during hours when the Counseling Center is closed, you may talk to a Dormitory Head Resident, Resident Assistant, or call Campus Security and Safety at 615.966.7600.  Call 911 if it is an emergency and you are unable to reach Campus Safety.  The Crisis Intervention Center, 615.244.7444, can be reached at any time to talk with you and advise you on urgent emotional concerns.  If you have seen or are seeing a counselor in the Lipscomb University Counseling Center, he or she will have talked with you about after-hours counseling needs – follow their recommendation.

COST:
Counseling services are provided at no cost to University students and employees in most cases.  Exceptions include:

·         Annual Pre-Marital Workshop (including FOCCUS assessment)

          $35 per couple

·         FOCCUS assessment (for pre-marital counseling)

          $25 per couple

·         Myers-Briggs (for career counseling and pre-marital counseling)

          Free to current University students and employees; $25 for alumni

·         Strong Interest Inventory (for career counseling)

          $10 for current University students and employees; $25 for alumni.
