The Department of Computing and Information Technology provides students with the tools to excel in the exciting and ever changing world of computer technology. The seven fastest growing careers in the nation are all in computing while computing graduates receive the highest compensation of all graduates. Also, contrary to popular belief there are many jobs available. A 2nd quarter job report, release by the Nashville Technology Council, shows that as of this writing (Fall 2011), there are approximately 1200 jobs in Metro Nashville and about 500,000 jobs nationwide going unfilled. These are high-tech jobs which you will be prepared to fill.
The Department of Computing and Information Systems is dedicated to providing an excellent education for students entering the computing field. Students interested in the computing field will find that Lipscomb University offers a strong curriculum in Information Technology, Web Development and Computer Science. Dedicated faculty, teach courses that are core to all curricula as well as specialized courses for each degree. Both majors and minors are offered in Computer Science, Information Technology Applications and Web Application Development. The major in Computer Science has a strong emphasis in mathematics while the major in Information Technology Applications has a strong emphasis in the development of information systems. The Web Application Development major concentrates on web site development and graphic art and design of Internet applications.
