Academic Overview

In the Department of Chemistry, you can:

  • Gain an appreciation of the great discoveries, laws and theories relating to the understanding of matter.

  • Train in the type of reasoning that brought about these discoveries.

  • Perform scientific research using modern instrumentation and methods.

  • Interpret your results for publication or presentation to the larger scientific community.

  • Be part of one of only two American Chemical Society approved degree programs in Church of Christ schools.

  • Complete a major in Professional Chemistry, approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society.

  • Complete an Applied Chemistry or Biochemistry major, designed for pre-health (allopathic and osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, optometry, dentistry, chiropractic, etc.) and other pre-professional students.

  • Join in a student community for support, fun, and volunteer opportunities as part of the ACS Student Group.

  • Challenge yourself as you prepare for graduate school, medical school, pharmacy school, teaching, a chemistry career, or any other path your life might take.
