Internship Information for Parents

Internships are a crucial part of the college experience that helps students begin navigating the professional world and develop more career specific critical thinking skills. Ideally, a student will have up to three internships during their college experience. According to NACE, National Association of Colleges and Employers, almost 80% of employers use internships as incubators for new hires. Over 60% of academic majors at Lipscomb have some type of internship as a requirement to graduate.

The Lipscomb Career Development Center supports students through process of obtaining internships. Each semester we post an estimated 100 internships for a variety of majors. We have an average of 70-75 students completing an internship each semester for academic credit. Students seeking internships should make an appointment with a career counselor who will assist through the searching, applying, and interviewing for an internship.

The most successful Lipscomb graduates often have multiple internship opportunities. Students are encouraged to have various internship experiences to gain diverse experiences and expand their professional network. Students who gain professional experience early in their college career are more likely to know what types of careers and work environments they enjoy most, develop professional communications skills, and interview more effectively.

Please encourage your student to consider internships and utilize the services of Career Development. The Center is located in the lower level of the Bennett Campus Center. Allison West, Internship Coordinator can be reached at allison.west@lipscomb.edu or 615-966-6295.
