The Joshua Project

MENTORING PROGRAM

University students often travel their spiritual journeys through college with little or no connection to the generations above them. Considering the many challenges that college presents, this individuality can often result in spiritual wandering, confusion, and loss of vision within God’s kingdom.

THE MISSION of The Joshua Project is to connect Lipscomb University students in spiritual mentoring relationships that equip the participants to grow in love, devotion, and service to Jesus, His body of believers, and His kingdom.

Some may ask the question, “Why mentoring?” Quite simply, personal relationships are the most effective and important way God uses people for His purposes. In a culture often dominated by assemblies, programs, and events, we believe that personal relationships always produce the best fruit.

Very simply, mentoring works.

SCRIPTURAL INSPIRATION & STRATEGY

EXODUS 33:9 & 11

"As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses... The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent."

MOSES MENTORS JOSHUA

God gives Moses the task of empowering of Joshua to take the leadership mantle of the people of Israel and lead them into the promised land. Moses empowers Joshua in leadership, primarily by allowing Joshua into his own intimate face-to-face relationship with God in the tabernacle. Moses' mentoring strategy is far more about cultivating a deep and sincere intimacy with God within Joshua rather than just establishing an advice-giving relationship.

ELEMENTS OF SCRIPTURAL MENTORING

THE TABERNACLE
The tent where Moses and Joshua commune with God together to listen to His voice and find direction on how to lead the people of Israel.

THE PRESENCE OF GOD
God Himself is the true catalyst of growth and success in any mentoring relationship.

RELATIONAL TRANSPARENCY
Moses must lead the relationship through letting Joshua see the core of his walk with God: both his successes and his failures.

MENTORING GOAL - The Joshua Project seeks to form mentoring relationships that reflect the picture of what was shared between God, Moses, and Joshua: two individuals choosing authentic relationship with one another as they both seek to know and grow in God.
