Business Education

The mission of David Lipscomb High School is to help "students so they may master knowledge and skills appropriate to them." The goal of the business courses offered at DLHS is for Lipscomb students to have a working knowledge and understanding of the beginning tools needed to function in the world in which they perform as a student, consumer and employee.

All business courses currently offered to students in grades 9 through 12 offer "hands on" instruction. A state-of-the-art computer lab is used for the classes which teach computer skills, with each student having access to a computer connected to a campuswide network system. Keyboarding, Microsoft Office, and Microcomputer Applications are one semester courses. Accounting I and II are year-long classes. Keyboarding uses Microsoft Word to teach students the keyboard, as well as the common word processing skills. Students are strongly encouraged to complete the keyboarding class before graduating. The creative side of computing is taught in Microcomputer Applications. Both keyboarding and Microcomputer Applications introduce Excel and PowerPoint in addition to Microsoft Word.  A Microsoft Office class is offered for more a more extensive learning experience.  Two years of Accounting principles are offered to juniors and seniors preparing them for further accounting study in college and/or beginning bookkeeping jobs.
